Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic treatment focuses on the 24 moveable bones of the spine called vertebrae which house the spinal cord and nerves. These bones are connected together by very strong ligamentous structures, however either chronic repetitive micro-trauma (poor posture) or acute macro-trauma (whiplash) can cause one or more of these segments to become misaligned causing pressure on the nervous system and interference in the nerve transmission of impulses to muscles, organs and glands in the body. The chiropractic doctor is trained to detect and correct these spinal misalignments thereby removing the pressure on the nerves allowing there to be a normal flow of nerve energy. This affords the body the ability to balance and heal itself without the use of drugs and surgery.
Chiropractors also are trained to adjust or manipulate the joints of the extremities such as the wrist for carpal tunnel, the shoulder for rotator cuff problems, and the lower extremities for ankle, knee and hip joint sprains and or pain.
Chiropractic care also has specialists within the profession; there are upper cervical practitioners, chiropractic neurologists, chiropractic radiologists, chiropractic orthopedists, and many others including chiropractic sports physicians. These doctors of chiropractic have extended training in the specialty of choice and can manage many difficult cases from a non-invasive approach.
Physical medicine and Rehabilitation
Physical medicine is used in many different forms in the clinical setting. At Manassas Spine and Sport we utilize its benefits for the treatment and rehabilitation of many musculoskeletal disorders, sports injuries, scoliosis, and spinal column stabilization.
Your spinal muscles support the movement of the 24 vertebrae of your spinal column. Dysfunctional muscles lead to pain, joint dysfunction, spinal decay (osteoarthritis of the spine) and nerve interference. Our goal is to improve the motion of these joints and stabilize this improvement with targeted rehabilitation in order for your spinal column to feel and function better.
Extremity joint issues tend to negatively influence the spinal column motion and improving the function of these joints (i.e. ankles, knees, hip, hand, elbow and shoulders) affords for greater overall bodily function.
We also do this with sports related functional disorders to help you improve your performance in the activity you chose to pursue. Whether it is to improve your golf swing, tennis stroke, throwing motion, running stride, etc… we are here to help you regain the motion necessary to improve your game.
At Manassas Spine and Sport we believe that ‘a body in motion stays in motion’ and rehabilitation is the key to getting you in motion and keeping you moving.
